I took this panorama back in 2015 at the Empire State Plaza of the Ajkun Ballet Theatre and audience. One of the perks of working in the area is being able to walk the Plaza during lunch.
I haven't posted anything to the blog in awhile, so I'd like to share one of my favorite Milky Way shots that I've captured thus far. I wanted to get a shot with the band vertical and managed to capture just that here. I shot this using my Nikon D810 with the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 wide open.
Selected for this week's Adirondack Photo of the Week (https://www.adirondack.net/weekly-photo/), this image shows the ice on Lower Cascade Lake this past weekend just before sunset. I used a wide angle lens, the Rokinon 14mm, to capture both the ice and the features of the valley in this area in a single shot. I would say this stretch of Route 73 (visible on the right side) is arguably the most scenic stretches of road in New York State.
First hike of 2018. The coldest day I have hiked yet, but it was well worth it. With very little wind the cold temperatures weren't actually much of an issue, unless we stopped for too long. I wanted to start the year off right, and try out my new 14 mm lens some more. I picked up the Rokinon 14 mm f/2.8 because it gets amazing reviews, and it is possibly one of the best lenses you can get for the money. At about 5x less than the Nikon equivalent, about the only thing it lacks is auto-focus. For landscape work though, manual focus isn't much of an issue. Needless to say, I couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Hunter Mountain Fire Tower.
Micah Ilowit (pictured in the fire tower) and I hiked up Hunter this past weekend. The trail above 3,500 feet was covered in a thin layer of snow and ice, and unfortunately that kept two others in our party from making it to the summit. During this time of year, you should always be prepared for winter conditions.
